Frequently Asked Questions

How far can you see using an underwater video camera?
Generally speaking our camera will be able to see about 10% farther than a diver can. Water clarity play more of a role than the depth and available light. Typical viewing distance of an underwater camera will range from 3 feet (very poor visibility) to 50 or 60 feet (excellent visibility).
Is color or Black & White better?
In the past black & white cameras where much more light sensitive and where by far a better camera to use underwater. This in not so much the case any longer. Today's color video cameras are very light sensitive and can produce a very nice image in low light. So price is really the major consideration when choosing black & white or a color camera
Will I need to use auxillary lights?
All of our cameras come with auxillary lighting. During the day the cameras will operate on natural light to about 100 feet in most water conditions. Beyond 100 feet or at night you will need to use the auxillary lights.
Can I upgrade to a longer cable in the future?
Yes
Does the camera look straight down or to the side?
All three of our drop cameras are fully adjustable. They can look straight down or to the side, even slight back up towards the surface. This makes our camera the most versatile on the market. It allows for many different deployment options.
How do you control the camera?
Depending on the area you are deployed there are several options for controlling the camera while in the water. We have a stabilizer fin for high current areas and a "camera rotation" handle for low current areas, by turning the cable with the handle the camera head will rotate with the cable. This is possible due to the fact our cable is very tortionally strong.
How deep can the camera go?
We build drop cameras with as much as 1000 feet of cable. Beyond 500 feet we have to add special video amplifiers which add cost to the system. We also can provide "slip ring" type reels which make handling the camera and cable much easier.
